Q-Card and Brush Industries Introduces the 4 Day Work Week

Sunbury, PA - May 2008 - Brush Industries and its sister company Q-Card launch the first step in their green initiative by implementing a four day production work week starting June 2, 2008. The new schedule is the result of an employee-generated proposal to help cope with rising gas prices. “Q-Card is doing its part to conserve energy for America and a better world,” says Jeff Bedell, Sales Manager of the companies.

Employees will work the same amount of hours each week while consuming less energy, both in gasoline usage and in facilities energy consumption. The new schedule reduces the employee’s financial burden associated with traveling to work and may help reduce overall demand on gasoline.

The companies conserve energy because it only needs to start and stop the manufacturing processes four times a week instead of five. “We anticipate a 15% reduction in energy consumption,” says COO/CFO Karen Nickolauson. Brush and Q-Card will continue to provide their excellent sales and service to customers five days a week with emergency support available seven days a week.
