Job Summary

Provides supervision and direction to laboratory technical staff including test technicians and test engineers and manages department processes to ensure efficient, accurate and on-time delivery of Q-Card products and services to customers, in accordance with all quality and technical standards. Ensures that the Laboratory and Laboratory Staff adheres to the ISO/IEC 17025 Laboratory management system for quality, administrative and technical operations.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops production schedules; plans, directs and assigns duties to technical staff.
  • Coordinates with Vice President of Technology for development and update of testing processes/methods and assures that personnel are trained and that procedures are being followed.
  • Manages the Test Report process by collecting and compiling Technician’s test data, creating formal Test Reports and performing a final inspection of format, data and approvals prior to release to Sales/Customer.
  • Receives and manages customer provided materials in accordance with documented procedures and to ensure control and safe keeping of customer property.
  • Manages Q-Card Documentation system including secured EMV library, Work Procedures, Work Instructions, Test Reports, Technical Documentation, and Test Forms.
  • Manages the ISO 17025 Quality System for Testing and Calibration Laboratories. Responsibilities include managing related documentation, conducting management reviews and internal audits, taking appropriate corrective actions, and coordinating accreditation actions with external auditing providers.
  • Troubleshoots any laboratory problem; assures that equipment and facilities are properly maintained for efficient production. Reports any process or equipment problems to Vice President of Technology and President/COO.
  • Collaborates and coordinates along with the Vice President of Technology and with other certification bodies for accreditation to technical standards.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate and supervise a technical staff.
  • Responsible for tracking and developing (as required) metrics to measure productivity and performance of the department. Manages the proficiency testing process and training plans for the technical staff.
  • Performs personnel functions such as selection, on-boarding, and evaluations.
  • Manages the laboratory physical assets, environmental conditions, infrastructure, test apparatus, supplies and consumables.

 

Organizational Relationship

Supervises Laboratory/Test Technicians and Test Engineers. The Test Technicians and Test Engineers will be directed in a matrix organization structure whereby they will be supervised by the Manager, Laboratory Operations, however, they will receive technical direction through the Vice President of Technology as required, to ensure optimum compliance with technical requirements. Communicates and collaborates with Internal Sales and Customers (with proper coordination with the sales department), with other certification bodies (including payment brands and EMVCo), outside testing laboratories and industry professionals.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Studies and/or experience in a technical engineering, physical properties or electronics test laboratory, or related field is required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common business and highly technical documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the organization. Ability to effectively write instructions, procedures and technical reports that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively train personnel. Ability to present information to senior management, and internal working groups. Strong Communicator in both oral and written format.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to use Microsoft 365; Windows 10 or higher & MS Office 2019 or higher software including Word, Excel, Access and Outlook. Ability to design, format and set-up spreadsheets of medium to high complexity, including use of various formulas. Ability to use PDF editors such as Adobe and Microsoft Publisher.

 

Physical Demands

  • Very high attention to detail.
  • Ability to concentrate for long duration's while reviewing technical data and test reports on a computer screen.
  • Close vision and color vision is required.
  • Works in a controlled Laboratory environment, temperature and humidity. Needs to be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
